With its silk-like elegance and cotton-like texture, this Eri silk fabric stands apart in both feel and style. Historically cherished as a vital element of Assamese bridal trousseaus, Eri silk is not only a symbol of heritage but also a treasured heirloom, passed down through generations.
Dye Used: Lac is a water-soluble colorant that has a warmer, softer, and more muted shade of burgundy red to deep purples. It is found in the wild and is extracted from a resin produced by female lac insects (Laccifer lacca Kerr.) which invade host trees and secretes a gum-like substance that covers its colony across the branches of the tree. This covering is known as stick lac and further broken of the branches to make shellac.
